Last summer a group from Orlando came to fish on FINS to try there luck at grouper fishing. We broke the inlet at sunrise and found plenty of thread fin herrings just to the north of the inlet off a set of condos called "the doubles". With a little coaching the crew easily caught enough bait for our day offshore.
It was a great summer day with light winds and calm seas, I set a course due east to the 27 fathom ridge. The ridge consist of numerous small outcroppings and drop offs that run to the north at about 30 degrees in approximately 160 to 200 feet of water.
Gulf stream currents move on and off of these grounds and when the current is right can be an excellent source of grouper, snapper and the all time ass kicking that swims, amberjack aka. reef donkey. On our first drop we were in approximately 150 feet. With a little help from Mike, Rob dropped down and was immediately on a fish!

Mike the mate and M. J. help Rob put the pressure on the fish.
Note the unusual chair? They provide stability right at the gunnels to really put the pressure on for the straight down fight !

We had caught a few grouper and an amber jack and broke off a big one. When the bite had stopped. We went from rock to rock with out a bite when we came to a rock with Amber jacks on it. After every one had there full beating by these brutes we moved on. The last rock 12:45 p.m. 22miles north east off the inlet we hit pay dirt! The fish were coming over on both sides ! Grouper and grouper! Mike was busy baiting hooks and holding fish for the camera! |

We were getting red grouper as you can see from Travis above and gag grouper to make Darryl proud. The fish were going crazy! The anglers were going crazy! It was there trip of a life time! Remember you don't have to be an expert to get these fish.
On Fins we will help guide you to some of the best fishing around. We are A short trip from Orlando the west coast and the Palm beaches. So why don't you come to an area that grouper still abound ? Fort Pierce has many reasonable hotels, restaurants and beaches for your enjoyment. I hope to see you soon!
